Combating Marine Environmental Degradation
This UNEP committee focuses on tackling one of the most pressing global environmental challenges: ocean pollution. Delegates will engage in discussions on the sources and impacts of pollutants, such as plastics, chemicals, and untreated waste, that are threatening marine ecosystems and biodiversity. The committee will also explore sustainable solutions for reducing pollution, promoting international cooperation, and protecting marine life. Through debate and collaboration, delegates will work towards actionable resolutions that prioritize the health of our oceans for future generations.
All position papers are due 10/18.
Asmitha Etukala is your Director for UNEP this year! She has done Model UN for just two years, but in that year, MUN has rewarded her with improved diplomacy and negotiation talents and has also fostered personal growth, improving her communication and empathy. Outside of MUN, she stays updated on current affairs, always well-informed about global events and trends. Asmitha also enjoys horse riding, indulging in fantasy and romance novels, and immersing herself in music and the latest TV shows.
Himank Chhaya is your Director for UNEP this year! He thrives on public speaking and debate. With three years of MUN experience, he has honed his persuasion and communication skills, even using them to cleverly evade taking tests (don’t tell his mother). When not engaged in MUN, Himank indulges in his passion for mathematics, tackling a test or two every day. Movie marathons also captivate him, leading to a deleterious consumption of films. Himank's dedication to MUN, coupled with his knack for persuasive communication and penchant for math and movies, shape a well-rounded individual with a diverse range of interests and talents.
